When my children were babies (a long time ago now) a jacket with hood and matching leggings was called a pram set. Hence the name of this design. Those were the days when most new mothers had a shiny new pram with matching bag at the front and either a quilted cover or checked Otterburn rug.

When one of my visitors suggested a jacket and trousers for Annabell to wear in her stroller I came up with this pattern. I tend to be bit old fashioned with my knitting (or as my daughter would say, very old fashioned in everything) and this design is no exception. Its knit in rows to the armholes then in one piece for the shaping, with short seams to sew for the sleeves and sides. The trousers are also knit in rows and seamed along the inner edge.
I used King Cole Cherish which is a lovely smooth yarn to work with but any dk would do, just check your tension. A budget yarn would be ideal too as it knits up nice and thick.
This pattern has been tested and checked but mistakes can easily happen when transferring the typed pattern to this blog. So if you find any errors or have any queries please let me know either by commenting below or contacting me. thanks

I am so grateful to you for allowing me to download this pattern May Allah bless you and your family
ReplyDeletethanks for your kind comments
DeleteThank you so much for the beautiful free pattern! I knit the jacket without the hood for my little girl's christmas doll and it came out lovely!
ReplyDeleteI pleased you like my patterns. If you are on Ravelry I would love to see a photo
DeleteThank you for this lovely pattern. I really enjoyed knitting it. I am on Ravelry but cannot work out how to send you a photo !
ReplyDeleteJenny Carpenter
Thanks for your comments. On ravelry you would need to set up a project page and link it to the pattern. Its a bit fiddly but quite easy. No worries if you don't, I'm glad you like the pattern.
Deletethank you for your beautiful free patterns. me as a pensioner appreciate your kindness
ReplyDeleteI'm a pensioner too and this blog is a great hobby which keeps my mind active. I especially like hearing from my visitors so thanks for your comments

Thank you for giving this pattern x I'm trying to work out how to make it bigger for a 16inch doll as baby Annabel is getting bigger these days xx
ReplyDeleteWow.. thankyou for this pattern. Very much appreciated by me and then when done I'm sure my 3 year old granddaughter will too.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the legging pattern , five rows rib then it says fasten off yarn ? No mention of casting off ? Am I missing something ? Another great pattern . Thank you so much
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing this mistake out. I've done lots of silly errors in my patterns but forgetting to say cast off is a first.😒 I'll amend the pattern.
DeleteThank you for your patterns - knitting them for a little girl and I've learnt a few new techniques as well (never knew about 3 needle cast off before). This was so easy to follow and now trying some more. Thanks again
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you for the lovely patterns. I am currently knitting the Baby Annabell Pram set hooded jacket and am stuck.:(
ReplyDeleteJoining peces together: I have 113 stitches and my next instructions are to repeat previous rows 3 and 4. however I have less stitches so the patterning doesnt work out. What am I doing wrong? Help!
I'm sorry you're having problems with this pattern
DeleteWith 113 stitches you have 20 less than the pattern states.
This is what you should have on your needles at this stage
Join Pieces and shape raglan
On left hand needle, with right side facing slip stitches of left front (23sts), sleeve (25sts), back (37sts), sleeve (25sts) and right front (23sts) working yarn should be at the beg of row (133sts)
Check each piece of knitting to make sure you have the correct number of stitches until you find out what is wrong
Hope this helps
oh dear, maybe im not being clear. sorry to be a nuisance.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of row 3 I have 113 stitches (as stated)
row 4 k8 purl to last 8 sts, k8.
rows 5-6 rep rows 3 and 4
my question is: how can I repeat row 3 which initially had 121 st the first time and then repeat it again when i have 113 sts.?
I'm having trouble understanding the beginning of the good. What does miss 7 cast off stitches mean?
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I'm having trouble understanding the beginning of the hood. What does miss 7 cast off sts mean?
ReplyDeleteOn row 11 of the raglan shaping you cast off 8sts at the neck edge. When knitting the hood you miss the first 7 of these cast off stitches and join yarn to knit into next stitch. Then continue with pattern.
DeleteHope this helps
I am having trouble with the start of the leggings. After casting on should there be knit 1 row before the row with all the m1. Can't see a way to m1 otherwise.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a bit tricky on the first row
DeletePerhaps try this
Kfb,k5,kfb,k1,kfb,k5,kfb,kfb
Then follow the pattern

I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY UNDERSTANDING THE WRT AS IN THE SHAPING OF THE HOOD
ReplyDeleteafter leaving my 'help' comment i finally realised what was meant so after a morning of knitting /ripping out my little jacket is finally finished , I'M JUST OFF TO STITCH IT ALL UP ...i love the pattern as soon as I Seen the photo of it , it was lovely easy to knit until i came to the hood but once i overcame that everything was fine . i will be knitting it again and also looking forward to trying the other patterns . My dolly patterns are all very old its nice to get something new after knitting for 4 daughters and 4 grandaughters dollies over the years .i am now knitting for youngest grandaughters dollies ...so thankyou so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteHi I'm glad you managed to sort it out and happy you like my patterns
DeleteThank you for the lovely pattern. Unfortunately, I'm stuck before I can get started. Under Materials it says I need needle sizes 3.25 and 4 mm. But in Tension (I'm assuming this means Gauge?) it says 22 sts./4 in. in stocking stitch using no. 8 needles. I'm used to seeing needles listed as US or mm, but never no. Shouldn't I aim to get gauge on the 3.25 or 4 mm needles? And, if so, which one?
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteSo sorry about this, use 4mm. When I began posting patterns I used the old UK term which is no 8 needles, I then changed to metric terms ie 4mm and amended my patterns. This must have slipped by so thanks for pointing it out.
Linda
I wanted to use some chunky yarn from my stash. Would it be possible to alter the pattern to use that?
ReplyDeleteNo,chunky yarn wouldn't be suitable it would knit up far too big. With an overall pattern difficult to alter the stitch count.
DeleteThank you for your generosity! Your patterns are so amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, this looks fabulous.
ReplyDeletewould you let me know though which baby annabel it is for please? sizes of baby annabel range from 22cm to 43cm.
thank you, im really hoping it will fit my grand daughters 36cm annabel xx
Hi
DeleteThe pattern fits a 36cm baby Annabelle
Thank you that is fabulous. I look forward to knitting!
DeleteI marvel at yourself and all the other knitting artists that you take the time to post free patterns for dolls etc.. I am just beginning this venture and wanted to say how much I appreciate all your thoughtfulness.. thank you!!
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome. happy knitting
DeleteThank you for the pattern. I have a question about the leggings.
ReplyDeleteJoining the legs you wrote that rows begin in centre back which I guess means where the legs are attached.
In row 2 it says purl, does that mean over all 88 stitches?
When I then do a knit and wrap om the next row it seems like the back will be longer on the sides, is this correct?
I am knitting this for a friend who just got a newborn:)
Hi in row 2 purl across all stitches. the wrap rows are what is called the short row method so when doing this rows don't always begin at centre back. If you follow the pattern precisely who willl see how it works out. Hope this helps
DeleteHi love the cardigan thank you so much. I so stuck on the hood I’ve no idea how to do it. Please help
ReplyDeleteThe hood is a bit tricky so glad you were able to sort it out
DeleteThank you very much for this use of this very cute pattern. Our 5 year old granddaughter will be delighted with this pram set for her doll, Lucy.
ReplyDeleteI am stuck on Annabelle pram set - Hood - shape top. I have done first 2 rows of decrease but then struggle to understand it after this. With 2 stitches less on next decrease row, how many times do you (p1, k2) and at the other end (k2, p1) how many times?
ReplyDeleteYou follow the rib pattern to a stitch before the decrease, then k2tog, p1, ssk, pattern to end
DeleteHello, I’m a new knitter and so far I’ve been able to follow your pattern, but I’ve just finished transferring my stitches for the first leg of the leggings of Annabelle onto a stitch holder and it doesn’t say to cut the yarn before starting the other leg, so do I cut the yarn or not ?
ReplyDeleteI’m so happy I found this pattern, I’m a grandmother knitting for a soon to be newborn so thank you.
Hi can I knit the leggings with out feet and we’re woul I start please
ReplyDelete
